About the Owner

Jennifer Arant, Winemaker, Owner & Founder, Lions Peak Inc.

Jennifer Soni, Owner and WinemakerIn 1990, it was a road trip that led Jennifer Soni and her Family to the Central Coast. At that time the Central Coast was, “horse country to the finest thoroughbreds and vineyards were just coming on board.” Having grown up in the farmlands and horse country of West Texas, country life was not new to Jennifer Soni.

The Soni Family kept returning to the Central Coast for the overall lifestyle experience. It was on Valentine’s Day 1991 that Jenn first set foot on what was to become her new vineyard home. It was love at first sight; however, quite a different lifestyle from the fast pace LA design world, that was her lifelong career. However, wine and design are both art forms which involved creativity—producing ultra-premium wines involved taste, visuals, design, and marketing. Jenn’s professional design career mentored her in her new endeavor.

The wines from Paso Robles were not well known and purchasing a vineyard, farming, and starting a wine business in California was against all odds! Jennifer Soni Arant has led a challenging life on her vineyard that has been filled creativity and reinventing herself. With the love of family, friends, and her deep commitment to her artistic and spiritual vision she has had sustainability in her passion of producing small lots of ultra-premium wines. Jenn states “I want my tasters and club members to know that I am just a real person!”

From 1992 to 2022, Jennifer has lived on the 128-acre farm with 40 acres of own rooted Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the years new varietals were planted on the vineyard estate, such as, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. During this time the vineyard and the Paso Robles AVA started to be transformed into a major wine producing region which has been highly acclaimed by wine critics and distinctive wine competitions. The farming component was the initial part of the vineyard operation: however, over the years, the importance of becoming vertically integrated became necessary for sustainability.

The overall operation of Lions Peak has been developed and overseen by Jennifer Soni. The operation of Lions Peak encompasses winemaking, brand development, and the tasting room sales and marketing. She says, “Sometimes you wear a lot of different hats: however, at the end of the day, it is my bond with the art of fine winemaking and the joy that it brings to all wine enthusiasts that makes it worth it! ”

Having been mentored by Robert Lawrence Balzer, the esteemed wine critic for the LA Times, for 35 years, Jennifer would tell you that this relationship changed the pathway of her life. Jennifer traveled with Balzer to France and tasted many of the most noteworthy wines houses in France and been invited to winemaker dinners and private tastings at Grand Cru Estates in France.

Jennifer is certified by The Spanish Wine Academy and is a certified Sommelier, a judge at the OC Wine Competition and has been a guest at many of the most renowned wine houses in France and South Africa. She has had the first a radio talk show on wine in Paso Robles: has been recognized in Who’s Who in Business and Professional Women, and other highly esteemed organizations in the wine industry. As a visionary, Jenn continues studying for the next level of Sommelier and continues her international travels. She recognizes that her travels offer her a greater understanding of the world of wine.

After 30 years Lions Peak has had the legacy of producing award-wining reds and white wines. The Estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon and numerous other Bordeaux and Rhone red and white varietals. Today Jennifer continues producing award winning wines from highly acclaimed vineyards in the the Paso Robles, Santa Barbara, and Monterrey AVA’s.
